LIVE! From Syracuse
Monday 5th February
OPENING BOUT
TELEVISION TITLE MATCH
Chelsea LeClair (c) v Tinsley Nolan
The Syracuse crowd filed in nicely ahead of a stacked card involving two all-champion showcases and some exciting debuts. Things kicked off with a bang with the Television Championship on the line. It was defence number two for LeClair as the two women came out to a warm reception. Nolan was hungry for her first taste of gold here and came close with a couple of two counts, but LeClair rescued herself from defeat with a Ocean City Crusher (Hurricanrana Driver) and a Corkscrew Moonsault to retain her title.
Winner: Chelsea LeClair (Still Television Champion)
IN THE RING
Frank James came out to greet the crowd and announce some matches for next week. LIVE! From White Plains would see the first ever Wheel of Chaos night, whereby each match would be decided by a roulette wheel to determine the stipulations. The TV Title would again be on the line, as Chelsea LeClair faces two opponents in Kimberley Williams and Duke Andrews. Also, Silas Romero would face Undisputed Champion Vanessa Reckless, after personally requesting the match himself. And of course, the 'dream team' of Chris Styles and Ryan Samuels would get their hands on the Masked Hipsters. After that the show rolls into West Chester for a one night Tag Team Title Tournament. He promised more details on this online later in the week.
LOW CARD
TAG TEAM MATCH
FREAKSHOW v The Journeywomen
The debuting FREAKSHOW were up against the Phillips sisters now, accompanied as always by their Father. Juno and Betty had a strong start, and pulled out the usual dirty tactics to stay on top early doors but Lexi pulled it back and made the hot tag to Vayden. From there they were in control, rounding off an impressive first win after a running knee from Lexi was followed up by the V-Trigger knee from Vayden.
Winners: FREAKSHOW
LOW CARD
SINGLES MATCH
Callie Renton v Kimberley Williams
Both of these women were eager for a win following their respective defeats last time out. Renton unsuccessfully challenged for the North American Title back in Brooklyn but came away with her head held high after a close match up. Williams got off to a winning start on her debut but fell to another newcomer in Myra Rivers in Albany. Williams took the fight to Renton at the start and was in firm control, but The Brat Princess continued to show her ever growing potential, and swung things back in her favour. However she let her guard down momentarily and a superkick from Williams left her dazed. Kimberley seized the opportunity to roll her up for a quick pinfall, Renton kicking out a split second too late.
Winner: Kimberley Williams
BACKSTAGE
Gwen Margolis is backstage with Alejandro Rivera. Rivera is pacing around the room talking about his plan to beat Raynes, and reclaim his Openweight Title when Ryan Samuels appears in the doorway. Rivera stops still and eyeballs him as Samuels just leans against the frame of the door, casually eating a large sandwich. ‘Hot damn Big Papi don’t stop yapping on my account,’ he says. ‘But when you’re done I think I might have something for you.’ Gwen throws her hands in their air saying she wants no part of whatever it is and leaves the room as Samuels enters and the cameras cut back to ringside.
MID CARD
NO DQ TRIPLE THREAT MATCH
Duke Andrews v Shaun Kaisano v Spencer Rourke
An all out war here as these three bruisers took to the ring. Debuting Rourke needs no introduction to the NY crowd. The Albany-native made a big impression early on, sending both opponents onto the outside. This gave them both the upper hand though as they had first dibs on the weapons as ringside. A few steel chair shots later and the blood was pouring, as it rapidly went round in circles of brutality. Kaisano, typically accustomed to Tag matches, looked every bit as comfortable in this singles bout as this chaotic triangle had the fans on their feet. Rourke was a divisive figure but seemed to energised by the Syracuse crowd, and naturally at home in these stipulations. While Andrews, a decorated wrestler, was dangerous as ever. In truth this match could have gone in any number of ways, with numerous two counts and close calls but once Kaisano hit a Burning Hammer on Rourke there was no turning back. Andrews, on the outside of the ring by this point, could do nothing to save it and turned his back to exit, seemingly disinterested in the outcome.
Winner: Shaun Kaisano
BACKSTAGE
Callie Renton was backstage. She was surprisingly upbeat about her recent setbacks, losing to TLP and again tonight against Kimberley Williams. She had finished 2023 with a huge win against Duke Andrews and vowed to make 2024 a big year in her career. The year that she stepped away from being a rookie and someone that contended for, and ultimately won, titles. So far that hasn’t happened but there was a long way to go and that was starting now, she said. She was going to start challenging people who she wanted to step into the ring with. People she may have even lost to, before now. Just like she stepped up against Tiffany Lynn Page. That way Frank James and the Five Lakes fans would have to take notice. Next time she challenges for a title it will be a different story.
MID CARD
SINGLES MATCH
Andrew Garrison v Journeyman Phillips
Garrison hasn’t had much luck in his recent fights, often dominating his opponents and throwing away an early advantage in the process. Today was the opposite though, as he found himself in all kinds of trouble from the experienced Phillips. Journeyman knew he was the better technical wrestler of the two and ensured the bout remained outside Garrison's comfort zone for as long as possible. But Garrison was not an easy man to pin down, and showed great strength and ability to rescue this front the jaws of defeat with a clean sit out powerbomb.
Winner: Andrew Garrison
POST-MATCH
The bell may have rang but Garrison wasn’t done. He picked up Phillips ready to inflict further punishment when all of a sudden El Gigante Hawaiano appeared, swinging his big boot and chasing him off. Phillips wasn’t happy with him though, storming off in frustration, leaving everyone none the wiser as to why the big man had tried saving him in the first place.
MID CARD
TAG TEAM MATCH
The Hatchet Clan v Salavea Twins
Former champions the Salavea Twins are always a handful for any outfit they come up against. While the individual abilities of The Hatchet Clan make for arguably the most dangerous team in 5LW. Unsurprisingly, the Salaveas were slick and near impossible to break when on top, making frequent tags back and forth, instinctively knowing where and when to be. But the Clan were patient, and as the brothers wore down Hatchet in tandem, she reversed a whip to make the hot tag to LVD. Once on top they were shrewd enough to stay there and a rejuvenated Molly sealed it with her Ginger Ninja Death Drop on Jacob, while Lexus fended off Rodney with a superkick to save the pin.
Winners: The Hatchet Clan
BACKSTAGE
Duke Andrews was backstage with Tiffany Lynn Page, Gabe Landry and Marisol Vilaro. Page says now that has been confirmed that Duke will fight for the Television Title next week, and he did the right thing conserving his energy at the end of his Triple Threat match. Once they get that belt it’s only a matter of time before Marisol and Gabe pick up the Tag Titles and their dominance will of 5LW will truly begin.
UPPER MID CARD
OPENWEIGHT TITLE NO.1 CONTENDERS MATCH
Andrew Raynes v Alejandro Rivera
These two are no strangers to one another, and were chomping at the bit to get this underway. With the stakes high too they were equally hungry to become champions again and didn't wait for the bell. Both men have been talked up as potential future Undisputed Champions, and it showed with this display, as they put one another through hell and back inside the ring. A near twenty minute affair saw each man come close on numerous occasions, as Raynes hit the Syndication (Top Rope Somersault Neckbreaker), and Rivera coming back soon after with a Protect Ya Neck (Backdrop Driver), but neither would stay down. It took a Capital Punishment (Wrist Clutch Burning Hammer) from Rivera to put an end to this and get the 1-2-3, to line up a shot at the belt he lost some three months ago, against the man that beat him for it.
Winner: Alejandro Rivera (New Number 1 Contender for the Openweight Title)
BACKSTAGE
Griffin Hawkins is seen heading through the backstage area, his Openweight Title slung over his shoulder when he runs into Molly Hatchet and LVD coming the other way. He congratulates them on their win, and says he too will make a big statement tonight when he beats Ryan Samuels for the second time. Hatchet says they were just about to leave but if he liked they could stick around and be around for him, just in case. Griff dismissed it though. For once he needn’t worry. Nobody liked Samuels enough to help him. He looked forward to shutting him up, once and for all, and promised they would all catch up soon.
HEADLINER
CHAMPION vs CHAMPION vs CHAMPION TRIPLE THREAT SHOWCASE
NON-TITLE
Tiffany Lynn Page v Vanessa Reckless v Gwen Margolis
All three women came out with their titles, and each accompanied by their respective partners in crime. Rowen hyped the crowd, or rather infuriated them, as Nessa flaunted herself and her title at ringside. Duke demanded the crowd show more respect for TLP, the longest reigning champion of the three, while Gwen and Monty were given a naturally rousing reception on their first appearance since claiming the titles in Brooklyn. Page and Nessa, by no means allies, seemed content in working together initially as they wore down Gwen two on one before laying into each other. Nessa took an early advantage before Gwen came roaring back, but the top tier champ remained in control, picking them both off impressively. It couldn’t last forever though and eventually Page gained control of the match, keeping a firm foothold with a little help from her man at ringside wherever possible. After one too many cheap shots Monty waded in to ensure he didn’t interfere any further but that only allowed Rowen an opportunity to attack Page out of the Referees sight. Nessa was back in now to round off the win but Gwen appeared from nowhere with a Superkick to send her flying through the ropes. Page was rising to her feet but not for long as Gwen connected with the Texas Twist (Swinging leg hook fireman’s carry slam) for the victory.
Winner: Gwen Margolis
MAIN EVENT
CHAMPION vs CHAMPION SHOWCASE
NON-TITLE
Ryan Samuels v Griffin Hawkins
Hawkins was given a huge reception as always, while Samuels are jeered from the rooftops. With his trusty bull rope in one hand, belt around his waist, and the rest of his colossal sandwich in the other, he derided the fans for not showing him more respect before entering the ring and throwing the rest of his snack in Hawkins face. The match got immediately underway then as the two champions went toe to toe. Hawkins got the early advantage and the crowd were excited to see him take control of the villainous Samuels. But a huge Lariat turned things on its head. It was then that Alejandro Rivera appeared. Climbing under the ropes he stopped momentarily to stare down Samuels once more, the man he had faced last time out in Brooklyn for the Brass Knuckles Title, but as Hawkins pulled himself up by the ropes he wasn't given a chance as the two men brutally beat him down. Samuels sneered and laughed at the fans before leaving the ring with his belt, allowing Rivera the final message. He picked him up and slammed him to the canvas with a Dream Shatterer (Diamond Head) before grabbing his title and placing it over the shoulder, before tossing it down onto Hawkins wounded body, as the night came to a close.
Winner: Griffin Hawkins (by disqualification)
