TAG TEAM TITLE TOURNAMENT
A one-night round robin tournament featuring 8 teams, with the titles to be defended each round along the way.
The night started with a cold opening, as Frank James was seen in his office backstage. There’s a knock at the door and in walks Tiffany Lynn Page. James is surprised given she is not scheduled to wrestle tonight. Page says she is here to promote her North American Title and her upcoming match in two weeks time, which is why she came to see him, to find out who her opponent is. That way she can prepare and offer them a ‘friendly handshake’ perhaps beforehand. James says he’s been thinking about this, and has come up with an idea. Page has been a good champion (she agreed). So he was going to let her pick her own opponent. Her eyes lit up at this, but the smile soon disappeared, as he was also going to be picking an opponent, to make it a triple threat match. Page put on a brave face, she was ready for anyone she said. That’s good, said James. I’ll be sure to tell Jessi Ozborne that. The crowd could be heard cheering in the background at this announcement, as we cut to ringside.
IN THE RING
The crowd were pleasantly surprised as Griffin Hawkins came out to greet them. He wasn't scheduled to appear tonight, but wanted to address the crowd. He talked a bit about his long reign as Openweight Champion, and how it hurt to lose, especially to Alejandro Rivera. But he's not here to make excuses and admits he lost, fair and square. That said, he's still standing and that's a problem for Rivera because he's not gonna rest until he gets back what belongs to him. A rematch is on the table, should Rivera accept it.
MATCH 1
TAG TEAM TITLE TOURNAMENT
TAG TEAM TITLE MATCH
Illuminati PROJEKT (c) v #CoupleGoals
Tag Team champions Gwen and Monty made their way to the ring to a huge cheers, closely followed by their opponents. Vilaro and Landry, appropriately named 'Couple Goals' were not as slick as their counterparts early on, but defended one another at every opportunity, breaking a few pinfalls and periods of dominance with sly attacks. Even so, they struggled to match the experience of the champions in this largely one-sided affair. That was until Page intervened. Vilaro was down and out, and even given the three count at one point, but the North American Champion cleverly hooked her leg onto the ropes and ensured the Referee took notice, immediately disregarding his own count to allow the match to continue. Monty protested, as Vilaro recovered just enough to make the tag to Landry. The 'Top G' came bursting into the ring and attacked him from behind, hitting a Diving Tornado DDT. Monty was dazed but not out of it, although when Landry made the pin Page pulled him downwards for added pressure, allowing him to use his upper body with more force. Monty tried to kick out but was unable to. It was over! #CoupleGoals had stolen the win and become Tag Team Champions in doing so! Gwen can’t believe her eyes. How did the Referee miss it? They’ve been robbed blind of their championships at the first attempt to defend them. The crowd are practically rioting, as Landry and Vilaro hug and embrace inside the ring. Monty is having to hold Gwen back, somehow keeping a cool head in this situation, as Page, Landry and Vilaro make their way up the ramp in celebration. An unexpected and unreal start to this night.
Winners: Gabriel Landry & Marisol Vilaro (New Tag Team Champions)
Journeyman Phillips was backstage with Emma Harrington. He had a lot to get off his chest after the match with Chris Styles and Ryan Samuels recently, during which he was unmasked to be revealed as the man behind Juan Fall, one half of the collective known as the Masked Hipsters. Phillips said he created the Masked Hipsters to allow people like himself to wrestle freely without judgement or prejudice towards their age, or how many god damn followers they have on social media these days, as that’s what these idiot fans think is what makes a great wrestler. Tonight he was going to embarrass first hand an up and coming ‘kid’ and prove to everyone that age is just a number.
MATCH 2
TAG TEAM TITLE TOURNAMENT
The Rogues Gallery v Alejandro Rivera and Ryan Samuels
Samuels and Rivera are no strangers and certainly no compardres either, having been thrown together as a wildcard by Frank James. Nevertheless the opportunity to become double champions was one they couldn’t pass up and after some debate over who should start they held their own for all of five minutes before arguing over the tags. The Rogues could hardly believe their luck and sat back briefly as they almost came to blows, before wading in with an attack from behind. As the match wore on the makeshift team came into their own though, matching the Rogues one on one, and making the the necessary tags, eventually pulling off a shock win when Samuels hit The Midwest Express (Lariat) on Kaisano.
Winners: Alejandro Rivera and Ryan Samuels
Jack McGrath was backstage with Emma Harrington. Reluctantly, we might add, as she jumped in front of him as he entered the building for a few words. She asked how excited he was to defend his Title tonight. Unsurprisingly, McGrath did not look excited. Ambivalent, at best you could say. He said the Television Title was nothing to him, a magnet he was going to use to lure people in. Defending this against multiple opponents will show Frank James and the fans how dangerous he was inside the ring. At the Gauntlet he'll reach five successful defences and move onto bigger and better things. Nobody is safe. No titles is out of his reach.
MATCH 3
SUBMISSION MATCH
Ichobed Thrasher v Journeyman Phillips
Thrasher impressively eliminated three people in last weeks all newcomer bout, but tonight was a different test as he faced the veteran grappler, Journeyman Phillips. Few could match the ageing Phillips when it comes to holds and submissions, but the youngster didn’t seem phased by the imposing Brit stood before him. Phillips got off to a strong start and took great pleasure in trying to embarrass his younger opponent before the crowd, but Thrasher quickly rallied back to seal his first Five Lakes win with his Peggy, Call the Police (Imanari Roll into Heel Hook).
Winner: Ichobed Thrasher
MATCH 4
TAG TEAM TITLE TOURNAMENT
Reckless Dollz v FREAKSHOW
Undisputed Champion Vanessa was more than ready to pick up further championship gold, reunited with her partner in Rowen, with whom she's shared a lot of success in other promotions. And unsurprisingly they picked up right where they left off with a dominant display over the Freak Show. A Double Cutter aptly named REDЯUM on Vayden was enough for them to progress towards a potentially historic night of victories.
Winners: Reckless Dollz
MATCH 5
TAG TEAM TITLE TOURNAMENT
Myra Rivers & Chelsea LeClair v The Journeywomen
Rivers and LeClair go way back but this was a new venture for the pair as they bid for Tag Team glory. Their first test was a pair of sisters in Betty and Juno Phillips. Their Father, Journeyman Phillips, had promised the world his daughters would be leaving here tonight with the belts, and they made good on his word in the opening five minutes, beating on LeClair to ensure Rivers was kept well away from any intervention. But their individual abilities was too much for the siblings as Rivers ensured their advancement with the Rebel Splash (630 Splash). One step closer to glory, and one step closer to possible encounter with Landry and Vilaro.
Winners: Myra Rivers & Chelsea LeClair
IN THE RING
Travis Levitt came out to greet the crowd, another superstar not booked tonight. He said he was here as a fan, interested to see who the best Tag Teams were in Five Lakes Wrestling. He threw some speculation at his future plans, saying he might have a vested interest in who holds those belts in the near future. This brought a cheer, as he followed up by saying right now his focus was on the 5LW Television Title gauntlet, and of course, the NAWL Pure Championship. He finished up by saying he hadn't forgotten about last week, when he was screwed out of a victory by Andrew Raynes. Raynes can fight, that he won't deny, but has no interest in sportsmanship, or anything beyond himself. He hoped they would meet very soon to settle the score.
MATCH 6
SINGLES MATCH
Zara Walker v Sally Lambert
Walker came up short in her debut last week, but those were unforgiving circumstances. We saw briefly what she was capable off and tonight she showed there was more to come, with a fine display against the hard hitting Lambert. Sally tried taking the fight to Walker but she’d done her homework and kept it as technical as possible. She sealed the match with her Crunch Time (Piledriver), rounding off an impressive one on one debut.
Winner: Zara Walker
Gwen Margolis is backstage with Alejandro Rivera and Monty Margolis. They’re both trying to calm her down, as Ryan Samuels hangs in the corner playing with his bull rope. ‘Rivera, tell your little lady to be quiet,’ he yells. Rivera, unamused, steps up to him and threatens to shove the bull rope down his throat after this tournament is over, champions or not. He then pauses. ‘Where is your Title?’ asks Rivera. Samuels looks at his shoulder, and his waist. It's not in either of those places. He scratches his head. ‘Where's my title come to think of it?’ exclaims Rivera, looking around the room in frustration. He points the blame at Samuels, who in turn points the blame at Rivera, before coming to the conclusion at the same time. ‘HAWKINS!’ they yell, simultaneously.
MATCH 7
SINGLES MATCH
Arsyn Next v Indie Legends
Indie was nothing short of impressive in beating five other newcomers last week on her Five Lakes debut. Tonight she faced another debutant in Arsyn. There had been a lot of back and forth between these two throughout the week, and they barely waited for the bell before getting their hands on each other. Indie started the match well, showing why she was, thus far, the stand out competitor of the many new additions to the Five Lakes roster. But Arsyn worked her way back in on multiple occasions. That said Indie had the lions share of this match up, almost sealing it with her American Values, a 'Salute' followed by a Boot to her seated opponent. But it wasn't quite enough, as Next hung on. Finding her way back in, Arsyn landed a few shots to get Indie on the backfoot, followed by a full twisting crossbody. Arsyn then rolled her up and hooked her legs on the ropes illegally for more leverage, cleverly ensuring the Referee was just out of sight for the three count out of nowhere! Indie pleaded with the official thereafter but his decision was final, as Arsyn swaggered to the back to a far less positive reception than she received on the way in.
Winner: Arsyn Next
MATCH 8
TAG TEAM TITLE TOURNAMENT SEMI FINAL
TAG TEAM TITLE MATCH
Gabriel Landry & Marisol Vilaro (c) v Alejandro Rivera & Ryan Samuels
Rivera and Samuels were preoccupied from the off, after the revelation their belts had been stolen by someone backstage. Their unproven theory that this was the work of Griffin Hawkins, a man who had conveniently turned up tonight was discussed by the commentary team, who weren't convinced Hawkins would react in this manner. However, this opportunity to become double champions never really got going as they argued back and forth throughout, Landry and Vilaro being allowed to dominate for much of the matchup. Gwen Margolis tried coming down to ringside to intervene, still enraged from her match at the start of the night, but was denied by officials on the entrance ramp. This galvanised Rivera momentarily, seeking some justice for his fiance, but it never materialised, as Landry and Vilaro solidified their Couple Goals with a Crunch Time on Samuels that Vilaro calls Natural Selection. The much maligned sweethearts were in the final, but who would be their opponents?
Winners: Gabriel Landry & Marisol Vilaro (Still Tag Team Champions)
MATCH 9
TAG TEAM TITLE TOURNAMENT SEMI FINAL
Reckless Dollz v Myra Rivers & Chelsea LeClair
The much acclaimed Dollz came face to face with the team of Rivers and LeClair before a chaotic all-woman affair ensued. As things settled down and some order was established the Dollz took an early lead with their unrivalled chemistry. But Rivers and LeClair stayed in this throughout, growing into the match and together as a team, pulling off an arguably shock win with Rivers’ Rebel Bomb (Widow's Peak/Gory Special) on Rowen to seal their place in the final, for a shot at the Tag Team Titles. They celebrated on the entrance ramp and with the fans, as Reckless and Rowen threw shade at the crowd who enjoyed this victory.
Winners: Myra Rivera & Chelsea LeClair
BACKSTAGE
After getting the win in her debut Arsyn Next is walking through the venue looking very proud of herself. As she's strolling along she sees a familiar face in Travis Levitt. Travis stares at her for a moment and then shakes his head softly. Looking Arsyn in the eyes, The Dragon queries her, asking if she was proud of herself.
Arsyn: I got the dub Trav. Any means necessary, right?
Travis: Is that what they taught you in TRIOCS? I’ve met a few members of Team TRIOCS. One of my best friends, and protege, is TRIOCS. She never bends the rules.
Arsyn: You must be talking about the one that ran away for a boy. Left everything behind. She's soft, even Ry-Ry says so.
Travis: And yet, look how in-demand she is. Look how respected she is. So, I guess that's the question for you, Arsyn. Do you want wins, or do you want respect? Either way, I’ll be watching you.
And with that The Dragon turns and walks away, his message left and Arsyn glaring at his back.
Arsyn: WINNING IS EVERYTHING,TRAVIS!!
The camera focused in on her angered expression, before cutting back to ringside.
MATCH 10
TAG TEAM MATCH
Kimberley Williams & Mikaela Callaway v Red Lock Legion
With Callaway’s addition to the roster meant it was only a matter of time before we see two or more members of the Queens of Chaos inside the ring together. Tonight she teamed with Williams to face the debuting Red Lock Legion. Corsen and Scarlett were the two competing today, and were impressive in their chemistry, dominating for much of the match up. Callaway and Williams, natural allies but somewhat of a makeshift team, took some time to find any sort of rhythm, but came into their own later on, working together well to turn things in their favour. With defeat looking increasingly likely Flynn took matters into own hands and entered the ring with a chair, wrapping it around the head of Williams as the bell rang out. Corsen and Scarlett then attacked Callaway, sending a clear message to the rest of the roster what they might come up against when they meet this trio.
Winners: Kimberley Williams & Mikaela Callaway (by disqualification)
MATCH 11
HEADLINER
TELEVISION TITLE MATCH
Jack McGrath (c) v Chris Styles
McGrath picked up the Title from Kimberley Williams last week in impressive circumstances, but has already dismissed it as a vehicle to drive his career forward. His first defence was a man who would give anything to hold his belt, or any belt for that matter. The Juggernaut has come close on many occasions throughout his career, but ultimately just can’t get it over the line for what would be a hugely popular sight with the crowd. Tonight was another of those occasions sadly as he dominated McGrath in the opening exchanges, but a slick Powerslam turned things on its head and McGrath was able to see things out from there with a Cold Snap (Cradle Piledriver) for a clinical win against a difficult opponent.
Winner: Jack McGrath (Still Television Champion)
McGrath picked up his belt and lifted in the air. Next week he would face the gauntlet though, as circa thirty other men and women lined up for a piece of his gold. Beating them all would be a tall order, even for a man of his ambition, but another four defences and he was in line for shot at one of the midcard titles. Whats more, knowing he would get a second bite at the cherry come the end of the match, would no doubt be lingering in the back of the minds competitors throughout the night.
BACKSTAGE
Emma Harrington was backstage with Myra Rivera and Chelsea LeClair ahead of the Tag Team Title Tournament Final. This was the match they had wanted, not just because it was for a championship, but an opportunity to wipe the smug grins off their opponents faces. They had cheated their way to victory earlier in the night, but LeClair would expect nothing less. Rivers said they won’t let the same happen to them. THEY will be walking out with the Tag Team Championships.
LOCKER ROOMS
Chis Styles was seen backstage with Zoey Styles, who was trying to lift his spirits after the defeat. This was his second attempt at winning the TV Title in as many months. Four different people have held it during that time. He was beginning to think he’ll never be a champion in his career, that maybe he was just a journeyman. Zoe insisted that he never refer to himself by that term, it gives her the ick.
He also doesn’t have an ugly moustache to be a journeyman. Styles wasn’t in the mood for jokes though. Next week was the TV Title gauntlet. A lot of people might walk away that night having been a champion, even if only for fifteen minutes. If he loses again he’ll be a laughing stock. Zoe reminded him of what he’s been through to get to where he is. He was already a champion. The fans adored him and turned out in large numbers to watch him wrestle, no matter who the opponent was. She believed he would go onto achieve something here in Five Lakes Wrestling. He was getting close, she felt it. And when he does it would only make the struggles to get there all the more worth it! That bought him a half smile but no more, reluctantly agreeing, as we cut back to ringside.
MATCH 12
MAIN EVENT
TAG TEAM TITLE TOURNAMENT FINAL
Gabriel Landry & Marisol Vilaro v Myra Rivers & Chelsea LeClair
Landry and Vilaro came out accompanied by Page, as all three held their titles aloft in the ring for the world to see. Right now, with Duke Andrews, they were one of the most acclaimed factions in all of professional wrestling, and they were there to remind everyone. Rivera and LeClair were two great singles wrestlers, with Tag Team success in other promotions that would serve them will against this outfit. But despite their long standing friendship they were still inexperienced as a team together. Coming through two matches already tonight would have boosted their confidence but in Vilaro and Landry they faced not only two talented wrestlers themselves, but three individuals, as Page lurked on the outside, willing to pull out all the stops to get the win. They didn’t care who they upset or how they get there. A win was a win, and more importantly tonight, that win meant retaining their Tag Team Titles. The Illuminati PROJEKT would no doubt be insisting on a rematch in the coming weeks, and rightly so, but this was not about them now. Whether they would or should be in this match was another discussion entirely, as the two teams of finalists lined up while the belts were paraded behind them. The crowd were on their feet early on as Rivers gave them a dominant opening few minutes, but some clever tags from Landry and Vilaro got them back in. Eventually a hot tag was made to LeClair who with some help from Rivers got them back on top. However, Page was not going to let this one go down without some form of controversy, as she jumped up on the ropes to protest just as Rivers was set to make a potentially winning pinfall. That lead to an attack from Vilaro who was not meant to be in the ring. Landry recovered and formally tagged her in but when Page was drop kicked form the ring apron by LeClair all hell broke loose. Rivers got a second wind and managed to tag in LeClair without Vilaro knowing as she took full advantage of the situation to keep her team on top. A Jersey Drop (Diamond Cutter) had the crowd on their feet she ascended to the turnbuckle and leapt off with a "CANCELLED!" (Corkscrew Moonsault)! Rivers tackled the advancing Landry looking to break the pin as the crowd shouted along ONE! TWO! THREE! There were new champions for the second time tonight, only this time there was (some) justice in how it played out.
Winners: Myra Rivers and Chelsea LeClair (New Tag Team Champions)
The night had started in controversy as the Illuminati PROJEKT had their belts taken away in the cruelest of circumstances. But it had ended with two popular superstars standing tall in the centre of the ring, as Chelsea's music played out the final scenes of an enthralling night's action.
The night started with a cold opening, as Frank James was seen in his office backstage. There’s a knock at the door and in walks Tiffany Lynn Page.
