WRESTLER SPOTLIGHT: CHRIS STYLES
Full name..
Christopher M Styles
You’re known as Wrestling’s Juggernaut, tell us a bit about that..
It’s not a huge story to be honest. It’s just something the wrestling journalists and even fans kind of came up with over the years. The reasoning is over the past decade in this business I have been used as an attraction for companies. A strong guy, a big guy, and a passionate guy with one hell of a backstory. I have overcome several demons in my life and I continue to use the squared circle to keep those demons away. It all revolves around that. I mean basically to sum it up I think it truly means he has smashed through all obstacles in this business to be where he is now. He as in me.
What got you into professional wrestling..
Oh well that’s a pretty easy story honestly. It’s in my blood. My grandpa was a wrestling/boxing promoter and then my father followed in his footsteps. But, of course then came my older brother Jesse Styles who at the age of fifteen broke into the wrestling business as a wrestler and ended up by the time he was 26 having to take over ownership of a company in the prime of his career. He of course still wrestles but part time due to how he has to run a wrestling company. But, for me it was just watching my dad and then my older brother and so I started out as a manager when I was like 18 years old then worked on my body and worked on my training. Well honestly the rest is history. I just love this business. It's like church to me; it gives me peace in every sense of the word.
What was your first professional wrestling match..
It was actually a loss three years ago when I was having issues with a substance, let's just say. I teamed with my brother Jesse Styles. It was for the tag titles our opponents got the win and I was heartbroken. I didn’t get pinned. My brother did which was just shocking to me. But, from that loss came the realization to me as I heard those fans give my brother and I a standing ovation that losing as long as you give it all you literally have is alright it’s acceptable and you can overcome it. I learned so much from that one night which is why it’s my favorite.
Why did you sign for Five Lakes Wrestling..
The company has such a loyal fan base and the ownership expects its talent to go out there and give it their all and if you impress those fans one way or another then this company is with you. It doesn’t care about your past as long as it doesn’t impact your present, it just cares about you now. Not to mention I was born and raised around Chicago so it was a natural fit for me to wanna be a part of a company with the name of Five Lakes Wrestling.
Who has had a big impact on your career, and in what way?
My brother… Jesse Styles as much as he will not like me giving him credit. He taught me this business and he believed in me when no one wanted to. He helped me when no one else in the world thought I deserved help. Which in truth with my past struggles there might of been some fairness to that but my big brother never gave up on me. Sure he wanted to beat my ass a few times but give up? Nope never. He got me into the gym at a young age which the gym is my second home and of course the ring is my first home. Also we all know he owns his own company but when I asked for spot as a wrestler he said no absolutely not. He wanted me to go out and have my own adventure and carve my own path. He didn’t want me to be the brother of the owner of said company that wrestles there. So yeah for sure its been him.
What are your goals in 5LW, or professional wrestling in general?
Well at this point in my wrestling career now a little over ten years in…. To be the main attraction. To win a championship to not just be a “Special attraction”. No, I won't hesitate to say that I want to be “THE GUY” For a company and hopefully one day that will happen. All I can do is keep busting my butt inside and out of the ring to make it a reality.
Who would you most like to face..
Griffin Hawkins without question the man is honestly a legend of this business and a pretty nice guy. I believe we could put on a just great match or series of matches that would bring out the very best in me and him as well.
Who would you least like to face..
My younger sister Zoey lol. She has already been a force in the mixed martial arts world and now she's taking steps to get into the wrestling world. She is one hundred percent a bad ass and I have helped train her so she knows everything I know. With her MMA background and all of my knowledge she's honestly scary.
And finally, do you have a message for the Five Lakes fans?
My message is simple. Thank you so much for your support of me and the continued support of me in the coming months to years as I chase our dream of being “The guy”. I’m a person like all of you who has gone through hardships, fought demons and just wanna be the best person I can be inside and out of the ring. Smash City as I like to call them because we are a city and we smash through barriers every day. Nothing but love to my fans aka Smash City.
