LIVE! From Grand Rapids
Sunday 30th July
The fans filled in nicely for the first Five Lakes Wrestling Show. Frank James is out first greet the Grand Rapids crowd. He thanked them for coming, and putting their faith in this new promotion so early on. It had always been his dream to bring regular wrestling to this part of the country, and while he was excited at the names they had already signed, he promised more to come. Above his head was the North American Title and he outlined the plans for tonight’s Main Event ladder match.
Billie Garner v Tiffany Lynn Page
Indie darling and local girl Garner had the crowd behind her, which didn’t seem to phase Lynn Page, if anything she relished in the backlash. Garner was out to impress and made life difficult for the savvy Page, but she was never really out of contention and overturned things with a nasty eye poke out of the Referees sight. There was no time to waste and she finished things off with a Judas Effect she ironically calls All Eyes On Me.
Winner: Tiffany Lynn Page
Sally Lambert was backstage with interviewer Emma Harrington. Emma boldly claimed that Sally must be one of the favourites tonight, given she was already a champion in another company, but Sally played it down. She hadn’t bought her belt with her as respect was to be earned, not automatically given. Everyone was on an even keel and she liked it that way. One way or another she would prove her worth to the fans though and find success here too.
Khloe Bell v Iida Matsuda
Matsuda was an instant hit with the fans, her mix of puroresu and martial arts was exciting to see. Bell came in full of confidence, and was caught off guard in the early stages, but found her way back into the match as time went on. Matsuda looked the favourite for most of the match and to progress into the night's mian event, but her quest for gold was valiantly denied when Bell connected with Hell’s Bells (Cradle Piledriver) out of nowhere for the three count.
Winner: Khloe Bell
AJ Rivera v Kanaka Mauna
The towering Mauna made Rivera look diminutive by comparison but he held his own with the Hawaiian Giant. Mauna, strong and tough to break, was not infallible though. Rivera had his own spells of dominance and began wearing the big man down with some power moves of his own. But Mauna refused to stay down long enough and in the end a frustrated Rivera used the ropes as leverage to hold him down just long enough for the 1-2-3.
Winner: AJ Rivera
The fans weren’t happy at the outcome though. Rivera turned to leave but decided he wasn’t done. Armed with a steel chair he rolled back the ring and attacked Mauna from behind. The crowd went wild but Rivera didn’t care, the more they jeered the more he cracked it against Mauna’s head and body before deciding enough was enough and exiting the ring with a satisfied look.
Jay Sinclair v Sally Lambert
Sinclair and Lambert went back and forth right from the bell, as if they'd done this dance a thousand times already. It was high energy stuff as the crowd rose to their feet for this old fashioned brawl. The more they laid into each other the more they seemed to enjoy it. After near ten minutes of back and forth brutality they separated and nodded towards one another in respect as the crowd applauded. After locking back up it became a bit less chaotic and Sinclair’s experience shone through as he began to out-wrestle the younger Lambert, sealing his place in the Main Event with an Electric Chair Powerbomb. He rolled out the ring, visibly tired and a little relieved, knowing he didn’t have long to recover.
Winner: Jay Sinclair
Rivera and Bell were backstage with Emma Harrington. Emma said only one person can win tonight asked whether they had any issues fighting each other but they both shrugged it off. Tonight was all about business, leaving their mark on this place early on. They’d already done that, so it didn’t matter which one of them left with the belt. If they have to fight each other to do so, so be it.
MAIN EVENT
North American Title Ladder Match
Tiffany Lynn Page v Khloe Bell v AJ Rivera v Jay Sinclair
The opening stages played out like a tornado tag match, as AJ & Bell laid out Page and Sinclair, who was only given a few minutes to recover from his earlier win. Bell took the initiative and attacked Rivera from behind as he was setting up the ladder, and from there on out it was an all out mayhem. Rivera was pretty dominant, but he couldn’t keep all 3 down at once, thwarted every time he tried to climb the ladder. Lynn Page was shrewd with her timings, and almost seized the opportunity on several occasions, but no one was going down without a fight. Sinclair got a second wind and after back-to-back Jaypocalypses (Electric Chair Powerbomb) to Page AND AJ Rivera had one hand on the title but Khloe Bell sent him flying over the ropes and through the announcers table with a shove to the ladder. This was her opportunity to shine and duly took it with no one around. Lynn Page was ready to save the day but a spear from nowhere by Rivera stopped her from doing so, and whether knowingly or not, allowed his ‘friend’ to unhook the strap and secure her place as the first ever 5LW North American champion!
Winner: Khloe Bell
'Marry Kill F*ck' blasted around the arena as she paraded the belt to a chorus of boos. Sinclair was helped to his feet, as Page exited the arena glancing back at the celebrating Bell with disdain.
