LIVE! From Philadelphia: Night 1
Friday 12th April
IN THE RING
Philadelphia native Zara Walker came out to a huge pop in front of her hometown fans to kick the show off. She vowed to put on a great performance for the locals and get the whole two night event off to a great start. She promised that next time they see her she will be a big name in Five Lakes Wrestling, and do them proud. The crowd cheered as she prepared for her match.
SINGLES MATCH
Zara Walker v Sally Lambert
After a strong start from Lambert it looked like Walker’s hopes of a win in front of her home fans wouldn’t come to fruition but she rallied back to pick up an impressive victory with the Crunch Time (Piledriver).
She spent some time with the fans on her way back to the crowd, and even made time for Sally once she was back on her feet, both women showing mutual respect as the Brit raised her opponents arm in the air for one last pop from the crowd.
Winner: Zara Walker
BACKSTAGE
General Manager Nigel Phillips was approached by Andrew Raynes and Duke Andrews in his office. They demanded to know why he reversed Frank James initial announcement for them to compete in the Television Tag Team Title match. Phillips said he had already explained his decision, and had handpicked good opponents for them both this weekend instead to prove their worth. Raynes scoffed. He questioned Phillips’ motives. Naturally Phillips refuted this, but was willing to give them a chance. If they both win they’ll get the next shot at those belts, just as Frank James had intended. If not, they move to the bottom of the ladder. For every championship.
TELEVISION TITLE MATCH
Tater (c) v Corsen Howell
Corsen remains a bit of an unknown entity in 5LW, and while her brother continues to make a name for himself by winding up half the roster, she quietly went about her business and pulled off an impressive victory to challenge for this belt. And she quickly made a name for herself in this encounter too, running rings around the imposing Tater to begin with. The Howells draw more jeers then cheers but ironically Corsen seems to have gathered a small cult following, perhaps in response to Flynn’s obnoxious personality as much as anything else. But Tater was never one to go down without a fight and clawed it back with his superior strength and physicality, wearing Corsen down with a Bear Hug and finishing her off with the Tater Tot.
Winner: Tater (Still Television Champion)
SINGLES MATCH
Serenity Holmes v Flynn Howell
Flynn may get peoples backs up but we’ve learnt thus far that he can at least back up his words inside the ring. He needed to be on his a-game for this one too, as the talented Holmes came out for a warm reception, looking to steal a march on the many new faces in 5LW, and ultimately get a step closer to adding more gold to her growing belt collection. Flynn always had a trick up his sleeve though and despite a strong start found himself staring defeat in the face. He promptly rolled out of the ring and feigned injury, clutching his shoulder much to the dismay of Serenity, and every in the crowd. The Referee counted him out but as soon Holmes' back was turned at the end of the it and he jumped back in and attacked her from behind.
Winner: Serenity Holmes by countout
SINGLES MATCH
Danielle Basch v Chris Styles
Like Holmes earlier, Danielle Basch was hungry to made a strong start to life with her new employers, and was given a great opportunity to prove her abilities in singles action against Styles. Styles has come up short in recent weeks after a fantastic run as Television Champion. However, his unfortunate run continued here as Basch picked up an impressive win the Riptide (Shooting Star Senton) putting the rest of the roster on notice with this performance.
Winner: Danielle Basch
BACKSTAGE
Backstage we see Griffin Hawkins preparing for his match tonight as a huge cheer can be heard in the distance from the crowd. Just then he's approached by Nigel Phillips, much to his surprise. Hawkins offers a hand and Phillips warmly accepts it. Phillips says he has a tough match tonight, but he knows it isn't really the match he wants. He wants Hawkins to know that he's still very much in the hunt for the Openweight Title. Hawkins was pleased to hear that. Rivera had said he didn't deserve a rematch but he knew he did. There were scores to settle and he was going to settle them. Phillips nodded approvingly. Griff had more to get off his chest though. He said he was sceptical when wrestlers like him become General Managers, and let the power go to their heads. Phillips gave a wry smile, and said he didn't need to worry.
HARDCORE RULES
Duke Andrews v Spencer Rourke
Rourke was eager to get this one underway after a few weeks off camera and out of the ring. Andrews though was looking to get himself in the title picture, and after his verbal altercation with the General Manager earlier, knew a defeat would be costly. A bloody back and forth got the crowd on their feet as they made one another bleed throughout, but the win belonged to Andrews following The Andrews Effect (One Winged Angel).
Winner: Duke Andrews
BACKSTAGE
BACKSTAGE
Patti Rose was being interviewed backstage before her match with Callie Renton. Rose reiterated her comments earlier that she had personally asked for this fight. Ambika Renton had earned her respect many years ago and she hoped that tonight Callie would be able to do the same. It was a lot of pressure following the footsteps of a family member in this business, a heavy burden that some people couldn't carry. Maybe Callie was one of those people, she said. Either way, tonight was about getting a win and moving on up the ladder. If you want the fruit to fall, give the tree a shake, she added.
SINGLES MATCH
Patti Rose v Callie Renton
When the bell rang Renton extended her hand but was met with an out of character slap to the face from Rose. Callie was shocked. ‘What the hell?’ She yelled but Rose grabbed her by the hair and tossed her across the ring. Renton just shook her head as Patti laughed but Callie jumped to her feet and speared her to the ground. The two brawled around the ring before eventually climbing to their feet. Rose smirked. This was the fight she wanted, as Renton came at her again. Before long an ugly fight ensued between the pair. At first Rose had control, the more natural brawler, pulling out as many underhand tactics as she could. This wasn’t the Patti we were used to seeing, as continued to get under the skin of The Brat Princess. But Renton showed she could dig deep when required and began fighting back through gritted teeth and determination, eventually seeing this through with Leaping Spin Kick that left Patti dazed and unable to recover from. Renton pulled herself to her feet and her opponent too. Patti pulled her in close and whispered some words into her ear before raising her hand for the crowd, and exiting the ring.
Winner: Callie Renton
TRIPLE THREAT MATCH
Colin Moriarty v Ichabod Thrasher v Sean Parker
Moriarty was seeking redemption after a failed attempt at the Undisputed Title, while Thrasher will no doubt want to continue cementing his self proclaimed status the 'young legend'. Parker's fortunes have been mixed since his arrival just under 3 months ago, and a win here for any of these would be a big step towards further title opportunities. A close fought fight that predictably went round in circles was eventually won with a Masamune Decapitation (Hidden Blade elbow strike to the face) on Thrasher to give Parker the much needed win.
Winner: Sean Parker
TELEVISION TAG TEAM TITLE MATCH
The Rogues Gallery v HOOK // Grapple
The inaugural Television Tag Team Title match was every bit as violent as we anticipated as these four bruisers went back and forth in brutal circumstances. A Burning Hammer from Kasiano in the dying moments was enough to bring them their first taste of gold in Five Lakes Wrestling.
Winner: The Rogues Gallery (New Television Tag Team Champions)
SINGLES MATCH
Scarlett Howell v Griffin Hawkins
Scarlett was seeking her first win and showed she could go toe to toe with the successful Griffin, but the Jukebox Hero came through to gain control of this match up. Hawkins’ intention of getting back into the Openweight Title picture were on track when he looked to have the match won with a Shot in the Dark (Superkick) but Flynn Howell did enough to distract the Referee and ensure the count was never made. That allowed Scarlett a way back in and when Griffin had his back turned hit a low blow followed by a Cradle DDT for the victory.
Winner: Scarlett Howell
TRIOS MATCH
The Queens of Chaos (Jessi Ozborne, Kimberley Williams & Mikaela Callaway) v Tiffany Lynn Page, Marisol Vilaro & Gabriel Landry
A quick pan around the crowd shows a group of fans with the hilariously long hashtag for the Queens, as both teams made their entrances.
There was no joking around once the match got underway as Junior Heavyweight Champion Landry got his team off to a strong start. Callaway was kept well away from her team mates as the trio took turns to wear her down. But a hot tag to Ozborne was all it needed to flip this on its head and it was left to Williams to seal it with a running knee on Page.
Winners: The Queens of Chaos
BACKSTAGE
Griffin Hawkins is livid about the outcome of his match, furiously kicking and punching things in his way down the corridor. He’s approached by Serenity Holmes, who understands his frustration at the Red Lock Legion. They need to be held accountable for their actions. Sean Parker comes into shot, who knows only too well what a nuisance they have caused since their arrival. He has an idea that might make this right.
MAIN EVENT
TRIPLE THREAT MATCH FOR THE OPENWEIGHT & BRASS KNUCKLES TITLES
HARDCORE RULES
Ryan Samuels (c) v Alejandro Rivera (c) v Jack McGrath
The first Main Event of this two night showcase got underway with an immediate explosion of tables, ladders and chairs. There was blood and carnage everywhere as neither man stayed down for more than a few minutes. These ruthless aggressors were savages to one another, and the match didn’t disappoint. Samuels has held his belt since the winning an 8-man tournament three months back, beating McGrath and Rivera along the way. While Rivera was in his second reign as Openweight Champion after a successful rematch against Griffin Hawkins. This brutal war had to be won though and a Lariat to Rivera through a table looked to be enough for Samuels but McGrath was lying in wait and hit a Cradle Piledriver onto a steel chair, covering the Midwest Nightmare to claim both his and Rivera’s titles in the process.
Winner: Jack McGrath (New Brass Knuckles & Openweight Champion)
McGrath slung his belts over his shoulders and surveyed the wreckage around him. Exiting the ring he walked up and the entrance ramp and turned to see Rivera back on his feet. Big Papi now realised what had happened and duly took it out on Samuels inside the ring, as the image of McGrath smirking, his music blaring around the arena, brought an end to the night.
